If you think road journey is not your cup of tea, you can board a plane at Delhi airport and reach Leh Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport in Ladakh in just 90 minutes. You can choose any one of the two modes of transportation mentioned below to reach Ladakh.

By Road

From Srinagar

You can enter Ladakh from Kashmir valley via Kargil. This road opens in June through November – all thanks to Zoji-La pass at an altitude of 3,528 m (11,574 ft), which is a gateway to Ladakh region. J&K State Road Transport Corporation powered deluxe and ordinary bus services run between Srinagar and Leh. Private taxis can also be hired at Srinagar. If traveling in a group, renting a deluxe bus at Srinagar is a more suitable option.

From Manali

The most popular option to reach Leh through road is via Manali. The road goes through Rohtang Pass that opens its doors to the travelers in mid of June and closes down in the month of October/November, deepening on weather condition. The other famous mountain pass the road takes you through is Taglang La. At an elevation of 5,328 m (17,480 ft), it claims to be is the second highest motorable pass in the world. Public transport is available at an affordable price. You can board a deluxe or an ordinary bus to travel to Leh from Manali in accordance with your preferences. The only hassle is travel time, as the journey generally takes two days to reach Leh with an overnight stay at Sarchu or Pang. Private taxis, bikes and jeeps are also available for hire at Manali.

By Air

There are three flights between Leh and Delhi per day. You can book a flight from GoAir or Air India and reach Leh in an average time of 90 minutes. All flights land at Leh’s only airport, Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport. Flights schedules are set in advance; however bad weather conditions may lead to rescheduling or cancelation of a flight. So you need to keep yourself updated about the weather conditions while traveling to Ladakh region.
